What is a chemical peel?

 

Chemical exfoliants (acids), found in chemical peels, lower the PH of the skin towards an increased acidic range.  This acidic environment dissolves specific skin components, and this is what drives the changes that leads to luminosity, hydration and a general skin renewal. As we age, skin cell renewal slows down substantially and chemical peels are key to speeding up this process.

Superficial peels mainly dissolve the desmosomes, the glue-like tissue that keeps the dead skin cells attached to the face and body. When this happens, the old, worn out cells will fall off the skin, allowing fresh skin cells to come to the surface.

Other peeling agents, like alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) can also help by stimulating skin cell renewal. Over the days following the peel treatment the older skin cells will die, allowing fresh new cells to rejuvenate the skin.

We have 3 different main peels to offer, including a specialised Alumier TXA peel designed for hyper-pigmentation. 

We also have peel ingredients, including Vitamin A that we will utilise for even greater results (depending on your skin assessment).

 

Key benefits of chemical peels:

• When peels are performed regularly, the skin gets used to the act of exfoliation and it will start to exfoliate itself more, just like younger skin does.

• A skin peel will thicken the epidermis (top layer of the skin) and the result is a smoother and radiant complexion.

• Once the top layer of the skin is sloughed off, the skin is more receptive to absorbing skincare ingredients. Our Peel treatments will also provide brightening and hydrating ingredients, post peel, to improve the skin’s health and appearance.

• All of the peels we offer act of the epidermis. They are superficial to medium depth and will refresh the skin without much downtime

• peels can aid the reduction of acne and also reduce acne-related scars

• Sebum, that can cause acne will be reduced by chemical peels

• Melasma/skin pigmentation will be reduced

What you need to know about chemical peels:

• your skin WILL NOT fall off or flake uncontrollably

• Your skin barrier will be impaired so if you are going on a sunny holiday you need to leave 2 weeks before and after before having a skin peel

• You will need to wear SPF and specified products in the days after a peel but we will give you a kit of 3 products to use at no extra expense. 

• Your skin will probably be red after the treatment, but this usually reduces over just a few hours

• You will need to avoid using retinol 5-7 days before having a chemical peel

• You can have chemical peels in the Summer. You just need to be very careful with regular spf usage

Healthy, radiant skin doesn’t happen overnight and some treatments will take time to show results. A single chemical peel can provide the immediate effect of bright, smooth and radiant skin; however, more significant results in treating textural issues, discolouration, fine lines and inflamed acne could take longer. Therefore, usually a series of scheduled treatments is recommended.

This facial treatment is specifically designed for people with sensitive and redness-prone skin (including rosacea), blemish-prone and very dehydrated skin. This treatment prepares the skin for its chemical peel journey and boosts skin resilience.

 

Initial Peel –  £110*

A peel with lactic acid and/or salicylic acid. This treatment will exfoliate the skin near the surface to bring rejuvenation and glow.  Includes a post procedure kit worth £30.

 

Advanced Peel  £120*

This 2-step protocol will effectively rejuvenate skin for a brighter, smoother and clearer complexion, with a combination of a peel and enhancement mask or a booster. Includes a post procedure kit worth £30.

 

Advanced Peel Plus  £130*

This 3-step treatment effectively rejuvenates at multiples layers with an enhancement mask, peel and booster, resulting in a brighter, smoother and retextured complexion. Includes a post procedure kit worth £30.
